Image
A Conversation with Dr Uttara Pattanaik Dr Uttara, an ICF certified Coach enables organizations/teams/Individuals to be their best version. Let us find out how. Dr Amit-How does one identify one’s passion? Dr Uttara- Have you heard of “Ikigai”? Japanese say, Finding and igniting your “Ikigai” or a sense of purpose is the key to living a long happy life. According to the Japanese, everyone has an ikigai. An ikigai is essentially your reason for BEING or the reason to wake up every morning. This is similar to passion but holds a strong "purposeful" connotation. Ikigai is also believed to be the union of 4 elements: What you love doing, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. According to Ikigai, passion is the outcome of “What you love doing” + “What you are good at (your strengths)” with an overarching purpose, that acts a guiding light throughout your life’s journey. There may be many things that you are good at and also enjo...

From Deepest Passion to Global Success

Image
Living with Deepest Passion Series-1 Guest Blog by Tom Grimshaw I saw a quote on Facebook this morning: " No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible ." I commented, " Wow! Doesn't this just lay responsibility at each of us feet for the whole of everything? We can be part of the avalanche of people who do nothing. We can be part of the small group of people who do the wrong thing. Or we can be part of the growing group of people who change the world for the better, one person at a time. Isn't that an exciting prospect? Or did I just get up on the right side of the bed and do a workout so I feel good ?" Today I want to do three things for you that will help you take a zillion percent more responsibility for your life than you have probably been taught to do. I want to clear some weeds from the garden of your mind. I want to show you how to plough and fertilise the ground and plant a crop. Then I wan...

Book Review-The 7 Joys of Life

Image
The 7 Joys of Life The Publisher, New Delhi Price Rs 495 The book begins with a chapter on self-knowledge, which is so lacking in the modern society. We are so busy learning about objects and other people, we forget to make an attempt to know ourselves. We do not know our innermost desires, our deepest passions and what gives us intense joy or grief. We are not aware of the working of our mind and emotions. Often we don’t like the way we are headed, yet we refuse to do what is required-going within. We rather search for answers here and there, not even aware of the treasure called human soul. Then we are guided to the second step in the journey of connecting and falling in love with ourselves. It is such an irony that we are busy running after relationships yet feeling insecure all the time of losing them. We think that relating with ourselves is the last priority though it should be the first. The author rightly points out that meditation has wrongly been associated...

The Sub-conscious and Deepest Passion

Image
Source: Uploaded by user via Dr on Pinterest "You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle." Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple Computer   Self-Reflection with the help of meditation is the best way to discover our true and deepest passion. During meditation the conscious mind gets silent. As a result, we are able to hear the sub-conscious mind or we can say that the sub-conscious gets activated. If you feel more comfortable with self reflection or plain contem...
