On Guilt and Grudges

It was my last class with BBA students at an institute in Delhi. The students were an undisciplined lot and tested my patience all the time. But God has been very kind to me as far as patience goes.
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” -
William Arthur Ward
Being the last class, the discussion took a philosophical turn. Surprisingly the most undisciplined lot in my class also talked of duty to parents and one student even said that parents are the only Gods we meet in reality, rest is all fictional. As I was discussing things like duty to parents, bearing grudges and so on, one student came up with a statement which I will remember for life.
"Two Gs harm us the most and are slow poisons. Guilt which comes from harming others and Grudge which comes from perceived harm caused to us."

What is memory? Not a storehouse, not a trunk in the attic, but an instrument that constantly refines the past into a narrative, accessible and acceptable to oneself.
