Leadership with Awareness (and Alertness)

Image
“Awareness is the flower which blooms but never dies, but keeps on growing as we grow in awareness.” With the ever increasing pressures of the materialistic society we live in, we are becoming more and more absent minded. We can’t notice the people (and their actions and behavior) around us, leave alone things like nature. The stress is taking the light away from our mind, causing the opposite of enlightenment, an endarkment. To become more and more aware and bring light back in our minds, the first thing which we need to do is to live in the moment. But that seems a very difficult task to people today as either we live in the past-the guilt, the grudges, the memories or we live in the future-the expectations, the plans, the worries and the gift of the present is ruined in the process. Living in the moment is itself a type of meditation (called mindfulness). Mindfulness is an opportunity to experience joy and to appreciate the present moment. It is all the more important for leaders to...

Becoming a True Leader

Image
Dedicated to my transleader friend-sister Ms Jennifer Sertl Maxwell says, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” A leader first develops his own maturity and people skills, and then he starts his journey of self-development and finally becoming competent to guide others with compassion and genuine concern. Let us take a look at some of the leadership traits and how meditation and spirituality help in developing them. Handling jealousy-Leadership is associated with power which generates jealousy. Instead of getting down to the level of such people a leader always remembers, “People are not jealous of your success but are frustrated because of their own failures.” Forgiveness-A leader takes all the blame on himself and passes the credit to his team members. He forgives team members for unintentional mistakes and remembers, “We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions.” Ability to handle pressure-Faith in a higher power re...

Interesting People in My Life III-Bob Rees, The BubbleBob

Image
Bob started playing games with me right from the beginning. When I saw Bob Rees (Likes) on one of my blog posts on Linkedin, I checked his profile out of curiosity. I immediately received an invitation to connect with him and he wrote very bluntly, “You have seen my profile. Now you know the rules’” Of course I had to play by the rules and accept his invitation (By the way, any reader can tell me if there is such a protocol or rule). Though Bob Rees is a Fashion Designer (he calls himself creative fashion designer, are there any non-creative fashion designers also?) by profession, but the child in him is always alive and kicking. A few days had passed and Bob, (keeping his reputation of being called Bubble Bob), had inscribed my name on a bubble foam toy he had created and sent me a photo of the same (see the photo at the end of the blog post) When I told him of my malicious intentions to write a post on him in the series, “Interesting People in my Life”, he immediately...

Simple Ways of Meditation

Image
From Mindfulness to Songfulness There is no right method or technique to meditate and I challenge the pundits who preach that. The purpose of meditation is to connect with supreme consciousness (the god within) and the pre-requisite is to silence the mind. Once the mind is completely silenced, one can easily get that perfect peace and joy which people desire through meditation. Another important pre-requisite is to kick out all negative emotions from yourself, if you really want to raise your level of consciousness and get perfect peace and connectedness. A gentleman asked me once, “What is the simplest method to meditate?” I replied, “Just live in the moment.” It is easier said than done. Are we not living in the past or future all the time? Humanity has invented powerful silencers for the vehicles, but we cannot silence our own mind.  Imagine how disturbing all the noise generated by the mind must be, to your body, heart and soul. Mindfulness, being fully present in...

Blue Ocean Strategy-From Where Does the Inspiration Come

Image
What is Blue Ocean Strategy?   Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne of INSEAD came up with the concept of Blue Ocean. The concept was formulated based on a study of 150 strategic moves spanning more than 100 years and over thirty different industries and it provides a systematic approach to make the competition irrelevant and create uncontested market space. The red ocean has a defined market, defined competitors and the traditional way of doing business by using offense strategies with competition and defending against competition at times. It is similar to an ocean infested with sharks which are fighting for the same prey. The blue ocean is calm and has lot of food with little competition. Some organizations which are known for creating blue ocean include, Southwest Airlines, Cirque du Soleil, Casella Wine, Nintendo (Wii), Cemex Cement, and The Body Shop How is Blue Ocean connected with Spirituality? Some principles which are common to both Blue Ocean and Spirituality include · ...
