Do Givers Really Gain? BNI & Amit Kapoor’s Story

BNI Gurgaon  region was recently ranked No 1 region in the world (out of 635 regions across 55 countries), which is an incredible achievement for sure. Let’s look at one story, which demonstrates the power of giving and the generosity of BNI members in giving referrals to each other. Surely there is something more than networking which happens here. In my childhood, my grandfather would make me wonder, "Does abundance create generosity or generosity creates abundance?" I found my answer and the story of Amit Kapoor reminds me of those days and certainly validates my beliefs. Generosity creates abundance for sure. “What goes around, comes around” keeps echoing in BNI meetings. And the official philosophy of BNI is "Givers Gain". But do they? Goodbye Networking, Hello 'Bonding'

If you interact with CXOs, top bureaucrats and leaders, senior journalists, top entrepreneurs and so on, networking does not work much. If you deal with high value clients, networking does not help much either. What works then, you must be wondering. I would say, time to bid goodbye to networking and say hello to ‘Bonding’. Bonding is the Vitamin-Connect The inspiration for the title of this article comes from Cliff Richard’s song, “Goodbye Sam, Hello Samantha.” Yes as we gain puberty and hormonal changes take place in the body, we feel a strong physical attraction for the opposite gender. And it is time to say Goodbye Sam (for guys). Similarly one fine day, we grow from young professionals to mature professionals. We saw a rush of this ‘outsourcing’ prior to the global economic crisis. But now what we are seeing as companies come out the other side is the real impact of this. Companies are not re-hiring at the same levels or positions as they were pre-recession.
