A Foreword That Touched Hearts and Souls

Image
My coach Jennifer Sertl recently wrote the Foreword to our book "Personal Branding, Storytelling and Beyond". It has touched thousands of hearts and given a beautiful beginning to our book. And as they say, "Well begun is half done" I am reproducing the Foreword for the blog readers.   Foreword “If a story is not about the hearer he [or she] will not listen . . . A great lasting story is about everyone or it will not last. The strange and foreign is not interesting--only the deeply personal and familiar.” ―John Steinbeck All cultures throughout time have use stories to keep history alive, teach community and create demand. Ever since language began – we were telling stories on walls in caves and now we are telling stories on walls in clouds. Stories are how we breathe. We know now that robots are being taught empathy through literature. So clearly stories transcend technology. Stories are primal. As children we are great at telling stories. We know so ...

"- Ernest Hemingway My Journey as Writer My journey as a writer (or rather poet) began with a Hindi poem  in 1985 as a school student. For a long fifteen years I only wrote poetry except a piece or two of prose. I   began writing magazine articles around 2001 and blogs around 2010. I had became a published author in 2007, when a case study written by me was included in a reputed book "Marketing in the New Global Order" (edited by IIM Indore Professor Tapan K Panda) In the past decade, I have written 5 books (and 6 chapters in 6 books) about diverse subjects. Obviously some people feel surprised by the range of topics I have written about and ask me about my focus area.  When I took a deeper look, I realised the common thread in my books and contributions has been storytelling. The Books My first book, "From News ...

Click here to add this blog to your feed (subscribe to Blog) And One Fine Day-The Power of Storytelling I decided to conduct a Story Blogathon in May 2013 to demonstrate the power of storytelling in general and storytelling for personal branding in particular. The stories received were highly inspiring, shared the hearts of the contributors and I felt the need to compile them into an e-book. 20 entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from across the world, share their stories of struggles and victories, how they learnt an important lesson of life or how they used social media and personal branding for business/career growth.  The Power of Storytelling Recently I was asked to introduce myself at an event and I told, “As a child I was fond of storytelling and as a student, I was passionate about branding. And one fine day, I realised that storytelling is the most powerful branding tool, be it people, products or companies.” OMG, even while introducing myself, I was te...

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) And Bring Your Own Soul (BYOS)

BYOD, BYOS-So Ladies and Gentlemen, Bring Your Own Device and Bring (out) Your Own Soul. Office of the future and Employee of the future I was speaking at an event organised by IBM & Support Biz, (on Friday 14th June), at Chandigarh, India on "Social Media for SME entrepreneurs". A gentleman from Aircel talked about the office of the future where everyone will bring their own device (BYOD) to the workplace (smartphone, iPad) and organisations will not provide computers. I immediately thought of "Bring (Out) Your Own Soul". Will the employee connect with the deep self and bring out the soul and passion at work too? Long way to go, it seems, though some companies like Google area already encouraging their employees to work in their areas of passion.. What I See in the Future Probably the most interesting part of my interaction with CIOs at a recent event, was my prediction that IT and other pioneering industries in India will start m...

Jennifer Sertl, (President, Agility 3R , New York ), my personal development coach and collaborator has proved it right. Heartfelt Collaboration  As far as I remember, we connected sometime in 2008. Soon Jennifer emailed me her poem, " Teachers are Artists " which really touched me, since I have been a passionate teacher too. Then we exchanged few emails and she gifted me a copy of her book, " Strategy, Leadership and the Soul ." Now I was curious enough for a Skype chat. In my recent post entitled “ 3 Life Lessons that led to Social Media Success ” I talked about the...
