Image
I was recently invited to speak on, “What best mentors do?” to a group of mentors / facilitators from Argentina who had come for a training program at School of Social Entrepreneurship India.  The session was organized at the scenic Zorba The Buddha, which is an oasis in itself in the Delhi NCR region. I divided my session into six parts viz. Mentoring Styles Understanding Expectations Asking Powerful Questions Deeper Engagement Monitoring Mentee Performance Pillars of Mentor Mentee Relationship A) Mentoring styles I began with a discussion on the five major mentoring styles:- 1) Challenger- The mentor pushes the mentee and asks hard questions. 2) Cheerleader- The mentor encourages and even in case of a mistake points out to the mentee the learning from the mistake 3) Educator- The mentor teaches/ trains the mentee after understanding the mentee’s deficiencies. 4) Ideator- The mentor encourages and pushes the mentee to ideate, dream and brainstorm. ...

Dr Uttara - Strategy and Leadership are most over used words in most organization.  It is hyped, over-rated and positioned as hierarchical.   I look at it differently.  According to me, strategy & leadership is central to professional and personal growth.  Each one of us, irrespective of where we are and what we do, need to be strategic in our approach and discover our leadership style to maximize our full potential and discharge our responsibilities to the best of our abilities. Each individual needs to discover their leadership potential in order to be eff...

"Just Breathe, Move, Love" says Holistic Lifestyle Coach Archna Mohan

Image
"All You Need (to do) is Breathe, Move, Love" Archna combines the ancient Indian wisdom with modern western techniques to offer holistic lifestyle training and coaching to her clients in UK and other parts of the world. Here is a wonderful conversation, I had with her recently:- Archna Mohan has an interesting story and journey from a very confident girl to a shy, woman who lost confidence in herself and then finally emerged as a super shero and a successful holistic lifestyle coach, with clients across the world. Dr Amit Nagpal- Archna, tell us about your philosophy of Breathe, Move, Love. Archna Mohan -I came up with this name suddenly one day when I was working with a client and she was stressed with loads of stuff and events which were going in her life. I know at this stage no nutritional plan, exercise or a life style change will work for her. I asked her if she could do 3 things to start with. She inquired what were those 3 things. I said Breathe d...

Whether New Business Pitch, Job Interview or Networking, Strategically Prepare to Meet the Jury

Image
A Guest Post on Strategic Preparedness by Rory Kelly Connor You’ve been there. You did the upfront work to get their attention. You created a powerful resume or marketing materials or a market presence that made them take you seriously. You scored that new business pitch meeting, job interview, or networking opp that you seriously wanted. The potential client or employer or contact is now your target audience. You then begin to strategically prepare – the talking points, key messages, questions, wardrobe, presentation, pitch. Hours are spent on strategy, with the goal of getting to “yes.” You do your research to learn about the company or product or marketplace. You get the goods on the competition. You powerfully plan and create amazing new ways of supporting their goals. You are set on proving to them that you not only “get them,” but you are what they need. You build your strategic interview script or presentation deck focused on selling them in to not only wanting t...

Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam*  Interview Series (Global Thought Leaders who have Enlarged, Excelled and Evolved into Global Personal Brands) Area of Thought Leadership -Integral Coaching Dr Amit Nagpal-Tell us something about Centre for Courageous Authenticity in leadership. Goodnews Cadogan -The Centre for Courageous Authenticity in Leadership was born out of my experience (shared with that of my co-directors, Ms Vuyokazi Menye : CIO at the Mondi Group & Ms Ntombekhaya Dayimani , Supply Director at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals) with many leaders displaying lack of courage to execute their mandate, in the face of resistance. On the other hand, they fail to ‘come-out’ and be who they are, and decide to blend-in with the dominant systems of their organisations, however toxic they may be. Our mission at the CCAL is, through our quarterly advocacy seminars, to raise the level of awareness of the contribution of lack of leadership courage, to the ineffectiveness of leadership in ...

Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam* Interview series (Global Leaders who have Enlarged, Excelled and Evolved into Global Personal Brands) Area of Thought Leadership -Life Mastery/Self-Mastery Tell us about your journey as a coach. I think my journey as a coach started when I was 5 years old & I arrived at the school gates for my first day of school. There was another first dayer waiting there with her mum. She looked at me, then looked at her mum, said I can go in now, took hold of my hand & in we went together. I continued to coach other children with their school work all through school. This is such a great question; it has me reflecting that the main theme of my journey has been joy. The sheer joy of seeing people begin to believe in themselves & of them coming into their own. Professionally, I began coaching about 20 years ago now in London, before anyone was using the term. We realized that we could use the same techniques that one of my colleagues was using wi...

Work/Life Balance: A Juggling Game

Image
A Guest Post on Work/Life Balance by Rory Kelly Connor We hear a lot about work/life balance. Everyone seems to know what that means and has ideas about how to achieve it. Yet, we all continue to struggle with it. I'd like to take a look, for a moment, at how we have organized this as a concept, an ideal, the parts of which we want to place on two sides of a scale in an attempt to achieve an equal weight on both sides. Work on one side. Life on the other. Hmmm. Do we really want an equal amount of work on one side and life on the other?  This concept also suggests that work and life are two different, and separate, functions of our existence. Maybe this is true for you. Or maybe the work you do is core to who you are and what makes you feel alive, like breathing. Both situations have challenges attached to them and a need for healthy parameters that allow us enough time for rest, rejuvenation, and renewal. What is often misunderstood is that each person's nee...
