Click here to add this blog to your feed (subscribe to Blog) And One Fine Day-The Power of Storytelling I decided to conduct a Story Blogathon in May 2013 to demonstrate the power of storytelling in general and storytelling for personal branding in particular. The stories received were highly inspiring, shared the hearts of the contributors and I felt the need to compile them into an e-book. 20 entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from across the world, share their stories of struggles and victories, how they learnt an important lesson of life or how they used social media and personal branding for business/career growth.  The Power of Storytelling Recently I was asked to introduce myself at an event and I told, “As a child I was fond of storytelling and as a student, I was passionate about branding. And one fine day, I realised that storytelling is the most powerful branding tool, be it people, products or companies.” OMG, even while introducing myself, I was te...

The payoff was minimal and I was living on $250 a week government assistance. Also I had taken in a lodger to help cover mortgage payments and was using public transport to go to sales interv...

3E Story Blogathon: Week 1 Preview

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to  subscribe to the RSS feed for updates. Why a Story Blogathon? Recently I was asked to introduce myself at an event and I told, “ As a child I was fond of storytelling and as a student, I was passionate about branding. And one fine day, I realised that storytelling is the most powerful branding tool, be it people, products or companies.” OMG, even while introducing myself, I was telling a story. Stories were probably always in my blood. Though right from the beginning of my personal branding journey, I was doing storytelling (unconsciously, without realizing its power), of late I have become a consciously passionate storyteller. Stories can be told in a single line and anecdote or can take the shape of a novel or even a series. Stories stay in our mind or memory and also help us attract more customers . And as Maya Angelou rightly says, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” But...

Image
I have been running a Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam (The World is a Family in Sanskrit ) Interview series on my Blog for past 2 years and have interviewed more than 50 people in the series from all parts of the world. It has given me a wonderful opportunity to interact with thought leaders, pioneers and other great professionals from across the world. These people have either emerged (or fast emerging) as Global Leaders and have Enlarged, Excelled and Evolved into Global Personal Brands too. They are interesting role models for those who want to become global leaders. These interviews will give you interesting insights about global mindsets and how spirituality has guided most of these professionals in deeply passionate journeys with respect for all religions, cultures and nations. Steve Brant-Interview with the Grand Guy of Innovation and CSR Dr Amit Nagpal: I really loved your comfort vs zone of magic image. How can we assist people to come out of the comfort zone and move...

Interview with Paul Copcutt, Personal Brand Architect, Canada

Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam* Interview series (Global Leaders who have Enlarged, Excelled and Evolved into Global Personal Brands) Dr Amit Nagpal - I saw two unusual terms on your Linkedin profile viz. new world of work and authentic networking. Please explain them in brief. Paul Copcutt- New world of work - Dan Pink wrote about the new world of work in his book A Whole New Mind several years ago. The fact that if your job can be done faster by a machine or software or cheaper somewhere else in the world, you need to differentiate now or that job will not exist. We saw a rush of this ‘outsourcing’ prior to the global economic crisis. But now what we are seeing as companies come out the other side is the real impact of this. Companies are not re-hiring at the same levels or positions as they were pre-recession. They do not need to and have found other ways to get the work handled, be it outsourcing or the remaining employees doing more with less. This makes the need to person...

Why New Immigrants Must Personally Brand Themselves?

Image
Guest Blog Post by Paul Copcutt “The great news about personal brands is that everyone already has one. The key is understanding what that brand is and communicating it to the people that need to know” – Paul Copcutt To many new immigrants to North America or Europe the whole concept of personal branding can appear not just alien but perhaps offensive. Whilst in North America and to a lesser extent in parts of Europe, personal branding has been around as a concept for more than 10 years, it has only been in the last few that it is being accepted as a legitimate and in some cases critical part of job searching and career management. As a new immigrant you have to put yourself in the mind of the average hiring manager, someone who has likely grown up with the whole concept of brands, watched far too many commercials and made buying decisions all the time based on the influence of advertising and brands. To brand yourself like a pair of sneakers or a cereal packet might seem false or...
